“From Isolation to War”: Native Veteran Story Quilts Opening Reception
September 15 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The Center for the Study of the American South’s Fall 2017 art exhibit features oral history interviews and story quilts from 16 Native American military veterans. These vets served in foreign wars ranging from World War II to recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. This exhibit honors them for their military service and reflects “the strength and complications of patriotism, as well as the struggles that sometimes continue after leaving the combat zone.”
Our opening reception for the exhibit will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday, September 15. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public, and we especially wish to invite members of our campus veteran community. More details about the exhibit and reception are available at the links below. We recommend the Park Place parking lot across the street from UNC Press, which is located approximately two blocks from our Center and is free after 5:00 pm.
